Want guidance to keep business going strong? Need help when things go wrong? SCMA is the first stop for support for Scotland's childminders.

About Us

The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) is the only organisation dedicated to supporting childminders in Scotland.

Our main aim is to promote childminding as a quality childcare service. We do this in part by helping SCMA childminders to be the best they can be.

Around 80% of Scotland’s childminders are members of SCMA. As a member, you’ll be part of something bigger than your own business.

Our commitment to members
SCMA gives our members a place to turn for help. We work with organisations such as the Care Inspectorate and HMRC to make sure our advice is accurate.

We’ll update you on current regulations. SCMA also influences change at government level to help make sure that new legislation fits our members’ needs.

Community Childminding

SCMA’s Community Childminding Service provides short-term childcare for families in need. In 2011, we received funding from Inspiring Scotland to operate our Community Childminding Service in Stirling and Fife. The initiative goes from strength to strength and has helped over 350 families so far.

Overview

SCMA is the voice of Scottish childminding. We work with our members to promote childminding as a quality childcare service.

Our Vision
All that we do is targeted towards achieving our Vision:
“Quality childminding… building confident children within a family childcare experience.”
How SCMA is run
SCMA was established in 1985 and became an independent organisation in 1990. SCMA is a company limited by guarantee as well as a charity.

Leading the way is our Board of Directors. Together they represent Scotland’s 32 local authorities. Most are working childminders themselves. So they understand how the issues of the day impact on our members.

Along with other volunteers and staff, and SCMA members, our Board shape SCMA policy, share knowledge and provide training. Our overall aim is always the same: to improve outcomes for Scotland’s children.
