One-to-One Meetings
The SCMA Direct and Network Support Service includes one-to-one meetings with both potential and established childminders using coaching and support publications to assist.
Establishment of Childminding Groups
This service involves establishment of new local childminding groups as needed, with the provision of additional support in the early stages as required. Records of issues raised at group meetings can be used by local authorities when planning future childcare provision.
Parental Support
Information and guidance to parents about the aspects to consider and benefits of choosing a childminder. Telephone guidance available to parents about contractual queries and information given to them about what constitutes best practice in childminding.
Group Visits
Visits to groups to offer support and up-to-date childminding information are also key factors of the Support Service.
Co-ordination of Network Meetings
All childminders are invited to regular evening meetings where they can network with each other, share good practice and form new relationships with those from out with their normal community environment. Each meeting will have a childcare focus and contribute to improving the quality of childminding.
Newsletters
SCMA’s quarterly newsletter containing both local and national information of interest to childminders keeps childminders up-to-date with anything that may impact upon them.
Good Practice Publications
Advice on the range of childminding related publications designed to promote good practice will be given as part of the Support Service.
Childcare Information Service Liaison
SCMA will provide up-to-date childminding information to the local Childcare Information Service.
Provision of Statistical Information
The Support Service includes the provision of statistical information relating to the number of childminders registering and continuing in service in the local area.
Training and Development Information
SCMA will provide information to childminders on training and qualification requirements and will raise awareness of any Continuing Professional Development opportunities.
Provision of Information on Childcare Issues
The Support Service will also facilitate the provision of up-to-date information on current childcare issues, particularly the National Care Standards, to ensure appropriate information is given to childminders.
Liaison with Local Sector Representatives
SCMA will maintain regular liaison with local representatives of public, voluntary and private sectors.
Promotion of the SCMA Helpline
The Support Service includes promotion of SCMA’s Helpline (open 10 am - 4 pm, Monday – Friday) to deal with any childminding related queries.
Promotion of SCMA Publications and Membership
Promotion of SCMA publications and membership will also play a role within the Support Service.
