The Role of Scottish Local Authorities

To develop and provide quality support, information and advice for childminders in Scotland, SCMA can negotiate agreements with the Scottish Local Authorities to support the development of childminding services in Scotland. SCMA currently operates training agreements within more than 64% of the Local Authority areas, providing intergrated childminding services for Scotland's childminding sector.

Childminders will be better equipped to progress towards formal qualification by following SCMA's framework which in turn provides the Local Authority with a better qualified workforce.

The system provides maximum benefit for minimum cost since the training is provided through a strong network with national linkage and support services. All training projects are supported by a dedicated team of national staff based at our Head Office in Stirling, to ensure that the project staff have access to information, advice and support throughout the provision of training.
