Understanding Childminding
Childminding is still the most widely used form of paid day care.  It is a challenging and rewarding career and to develop the skills needed to provide quality services, childminders must have the opportunity to explore their learning and development needs, and then access training opportunities to meet these needs.

SCMA have developed a Training Framework to help childminders attain these skills.

SCMA's Training Framework
The framework provides childminders with the opportunity to become actively involved in their own development, at a pace that meets their needs. This system has benefited thousands of newly registered and established childminders, enabling them to provide quality childminding services for Scotland's children.

From the point of induction to the attainment of a recognised qualification, SCMA endeavor to present learning opportunities on the issues most pertinent to childminding.

Training Evaluation
All training SCMA provides is evaluated and 70 % of newly registered childminders who attended SCMA's training reported that they were ‘very satisfied’.  The more experienced participants rated SCMA's training from ‘very good’ to ‘excellent’ with 73% being ‘very satisfied’.

SCMA is continuously evaluating, updating and improving the content and delivery methods of its training services in line with legislative changes, identified user needs, and staff developmental activities.

SCMA's training framework for childminders and the development of service level agreements with Scottish Local Authorities for training services, form part of a wider range of information and support services that SCMA develops and delivers successfully for childminders.
