ASH Scotland - Children, Carers & Second-hand Smoke
ASH Scotland is offering training designed to equip workers with knowledge skills and confidence to better support parents/carers to protect their children from second-hand smoke (SHS) and provide strategies to assist them.
This training fits in with the Scottish Governments 'Take it right outside' campaign and the GIRFEC principles of helping to keep children safe, healthy, respected and nurtured. The training also fits with protecting children's rights, improving their life chances and other key outcomes of the Scottish Government Early Years & Child Poverty Strategies.
The training will cover:
• Health effects of second-hand smoke on children & babies
• Barriers to change and how to overcome them
• Nudging theory and health behaviour change
• Simple steps parents can take to protect their children from second-hand smoke
• Communication skills to support a motivational approach
• Information on any local second-hand smoke initiatives
Who is it for:
This training is designed for staff, paid or unpaid, whose role involved supporting families with children under five. This will encompass family support workers, befrienders, home/school link workers and early year staff from both voluntary and local authority based organisations.
When and Where:
This training will be delivered on a regional basis throughout Scotland.
