New Chief Executive for the Care Inspectorate

We are pleased to advise that Karen Anderson has been appointed as the new Chief Executive at the Care Inspectorate.

At SCMA, we’re looking forward to working with Karen more in the future and continue to strengthen our working relationship with the Care Inspectorate.

Our very own Maggie Simpson, Chief Executive of Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA), was one of the stakeholder’s panel members representing the early years sector. The stakeholder panel was not responsible for making the final decision; however it was a good opportunity for them to meet the candidates before their interview.  The panel was able to listen and question them regarding their vision of the way forward for the Care Inspectorate.

Following Karen’s appointment, Maggie said: “Karen will be well aware of the challenges ahead of her as she leads the Care Inspectorate through an ambitious programme.

“Karen has always been understanding of the important role that childminders play and has been careful to ensure SCMA’s inclusion in developments involving childminding.”

Since 2012, Karen has served as Director of Strategic Development and Depute Chief Executive at the Care Inspectorate.  She said: "I am honoured to take up post and lead the Care Inspectorate.

“At a time of significant change in the care sector, we need to make sure we continue to provide public protection and help drive improvement where care services are not providing safe, compassionate and high-quality care.

“I am determined to continue building excellence across all the work of the Care Inspectorate to maintain robust and credible scrutiny and improvement work.”
