Paediatric First Aid for Childminders from SCMA

Paediatric First Aid for Childminders from SCMA
Childminders in Scotland are required to complete a paediatric first aid training course within the first six months to one year of being registered, and it is recommended that you keep your knowledge and practice up-to-date at least every three years.

Childminders should complete a course that is a minimum of 12 hours and covers up-to-date first aid procedures that are appropriate when treating babies and children with various injuries and conditions.

Alongside our partner provider Glasgow Clyde College, SCMA is pleased to provide our members with access to a quality Paediatric First Aid. The two-day course is tailored specifically for childminders and covers all relevant areas of paediatric first aid, as required by the Care Inspectorate and other relevant bodies.

Our paediatric first aid course covers: assessment of danger, anatomical difference between children and adults, basic life support including CPR, recovery position, choking, head injuries, meningitis, asthma, febrile convulsions, diabetes, epilepsy, burns and scalds, eye injuries, shock, bleeding and bandaging, fractures, electric shock, anaphylactic shock and Epipen, drowning, hanging, requirements of a first aid box, parental administration of medicines.

SCMA is running a number of Paediatric First Aid courses, alongside our partner provider, specifically for childminders at venues across Scotland during 2017-2018. Find a course near you...
