Read On. Get On. with Story Starters

In Scotland, one in five children in poverty will leave primary school without the ability to read.

Let’s get our little ones ready to read!  Read On. Get On. is a national campaign to get every child in the UK reading well by the age of 11.  The campaign’s mission is to change this for good so all of our children will start secondary school as confident readers.

A coalition of charities - including SCMA and Save the Children - and literacy agencies believe that reading is the key to unlocking a child’s full potential and is a route out of poverty for many of the UK’s poorest children.

To do this starts in the early years…

Read On. Get On. has launched ‘Story Starters’, in conjunction with Ladybird. These colourful downloads are designed to encourage adults to read with children, starting conversations and developing enjoyment of words and pictures - featuring Peppa Pig and Ben & Holly.

We want to inspire parents and those working with young children to create stories out of everyday things around them – at the supermarket, on the swings, or on the sofa. Stories feed young imaginations and help children develop the language skills they need to be ready to learn to read and thrive in life.
