SCMA's Response: Care Inspectorate Complaints Consultation

The Care Inspectorate is changing its procedures for handling complaints about registered care services and wanted to hear from you and the views of the overall care services sector.

The consultation was launched to ensure their complaints procedure is fully understood, easy to access and easy to use – for care services, service users and the wider general public.

Being the only organisation to represent childminders in Scotland, it was vital that SCMA also respond to the consultation.

As part of our response, we highlighted that speeding up the investigation process; in order to limit any potential damage would be an advantage, and we would welcome the introduction of mediation and is something SCMA could assist with.

We also reported the feedback we’ve had from childminders who sometimes feel the investigation process and the facts are not fully understood and this can put them at a distinct disadvantage – anything that can help re-dress the balance would be a positive step.
