Statement on Named Person - Deputy First Minister

Statement on Named Person - Deputy First Minister
The Deputy First Minister has made a statement to Parliament about the Named Person service and how the Scottish Government has responded to the Supreme Court judgment of 28 July 2016.

The Deputy First Minister has outlined how Ministers intend to proceed in the days and weeks ahead, and has stated that the Scottish Government remain firmly committed to the vision and practice of Getting It Right For Every Child (GIRFEC), and to the provision of the Named Person service as a key part of that approach.

The Scottish Government is now working towards commencement date in August 2017 and local authorities, health boards and partners can continue to progress the GIRFEC approach and continue to develop and deliver “Named Person” services. Other statutory, third sector and independent organisations can continue to engage with existing or developing “Named Person” services.  It is important, in the best interest of the children, young people and families we serve, that this positive momentum is maintained.
