We provide dedicated support and training for all successfully enrolled participants
FREE induction training, one-to-one support and your first year of SCMA membership

All participants on the project will be enrolled onto SCMA's induction training, which will guide you through every stage of the registration process and establishing your business. You will also be assigned a dedicated member of the SCMA team who will provide one-to-one support, every step of the way.

In addition, once induction has been completed and you are fully registered with the Care Inspectorate, you will automatically qualify for a full year of free membership with SCMA, which entitles you to a whole range of exclusive benefits.

Once induction training has been completed and you have applied for registration with the Care Inspectorate, you will have access to the following three e-learning courses from SCMA to help equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to build a successful career in childminding.

£750* Business Start-Up Grant *

Once you have completed registration with the Care Inspectorate, it is likely you will want to start getting your home ready to establish your high quality, nurturing childminding setting. 


This may involve buying equipment and resources and other set-up costs, so you will have access to a £750 Business Start-Up Grant* to reimburse you for some purchases - up to the value of the grant.

Terms and conditions apply and proof of purchase will be required – all of which we will chat through with you.

* Minimum amount, the value of the grant may vary in some local authority areas.

Can I apply?

You are welcome to register your interest to join this childminder recruitment programme if you:

  • live in one of the local authorities listed and, where appropriate, within one of the specific communities being targeted
  • can evidence that you have the legal right to live and work in the UK and
  • are able to commit to establishing your new childminding business within the next few months

Please note that some local authority areas may have further eligibility criteria such as being a parent of dependent children (aged under 16). More details will be provided once you have been in touch.

The first step to becoming a childminder is to submit the enquiry form and you will then be able to download and read our FREE step-by-step guide to 'Becoming a Childminder'.
