What's it about?

“Regulating emotions does not mean suppressing emotions but expressing emotions effectively and appropriately for safety, getting one’s needs met and socialising… Parents and practitioners have an important role to support young children through these testing times.” Building the Ambition 2014.

The aim of this course is to improve the quality of managing challenging behaviour within a professional childcare setting. It includes discussing how to prevent tantrums whilst exploring their triggers and why some children bite.

This course aims to give childminders the support needed to:

  • Identify strategies for managing challenging behaviour.
  • Consider appropriate methods within a childminding setting.
  • Support a personalised development plan for every child..

Key learning during this course includes understanding and explaining:

  1. Ensure that a childminding setting promotes positive behaviour.
  2. Be responsive to children’s emotions and experiences and actively encourage children’s parents and their families to be involved in decision making about your childminding environment.
  3. Organise resources for children to access.
  4. Plan activities that are inclusive and available to all children.
  5. Help children to identify the boundaries of acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in themselves and others.
  6. Value diversity.
