It’s all adding up for Maths Week Scotland: 10-16 September 2018

Maths Week Scotland will take place from 10 to 16 September 2018 with events across Scotland for families, communities, adults and schools. Whether you’re a maths whizz or haven't thought about it since your last lesson at school, there is something for everyone.

Maths is all around us. We use it to plan our holidays, check football league tables and spot fake news and childminders have an important role to play in promoting maths to children and young people. You are perfectly placed to encourage youngsters to enjoy maths, by incorporating it into everyday play and problem solving activities, e.g. "How many buzzing bees can you see in this picture?"

For Maths Week Scotland this year you can find out how guitar strings could solve the big problems of the universe, the role of maths in fighting cancer, or how we hold data in our genes. Families can play maths games and puzzles in Edinburgh or experience Murderous Maths in Orkney. Alternatively, you can release your inner artist and capture the maths inside our lives with this photo competition.

Join in Maths Week Scotland to see maths from a different angle. For more information and events follow @MathsScot and remember to use #mathsweekscotland  #stem or contact mathsweekscot@gov.scot to let them know how you plan to get involved.
