Online booking system now live for the SCMA Annual Conference 2017

The online booking system and full details of the SCMA Annual Conference (30 September 2017) are now live at childminding.org/conference.  Delegates please note that an Early Bird discount is available if you book before 14 July 2017.

Childminding is on an ever-evolving journey and the SCMA Annual Conference theme for 2017 is ‘Childminding Develops a Child’s Mind’.

A key highlight in the SCMA events calendar, the conference will be packed full of innovative and inspiring ideas.  It is the only conference in Scotland developed purely for childminders and experts attending will engage with delegates on new and fun ways to explore and develop the mind of a child.

Some of our workshops will be based around multisensory activities with practical ideas on how to use materials and imaginations to keep minded children engaged. In addition to exploring childminding issues from highly informed and respected perspectives, there will be plenty of opportunities to network with professionals in a relaxed environment that allows delegates to share ideas and make connections.

Commenting on the conference, Maggie Simpson, Chief Executive of SCMA said: “This year we are delighted to welcome Mark McDonald MSP, Minister for Childcare and Early Years who will deliver our Keynote Address and Henry Mathias of the National Care Standards Review who will talk through what the new National Care Standards mean for our members and their work in practice, in terms of inspection methodology.

“Childminders do have a responsibility to promote and demonstrate a high level of professionalism when carrying out their work with children and families. Understanding this role in relation to supporting the development of a child’s mind and their learning is crucial to achieving the best start in life for every child.

“We have an exciting conference programme planned for our delegates with a special star guest to be announced nearer to the conference date which is very exciting.

“I know our delegates will enjoy the event and exploring ways in which childminding can develop a child’s mind. Remember, if you are able to stay around for the evening event instead of heading home then come along and mingle with others at our new ‘Saturday Live Fizz and Friends’ event.”

SCMA members still have the opportunity to apply for a Conference Grant that offers subsidised places to the event.  The closing date for applications is 6 June 2017 and grants of up to 50% of total costs are available, with a maximum allocation of £125 per member.  Priority will be given to conference fees, accommodation and travel and additional items can be requested but may not be awarded if the grant fund becomes oversubscribed.  If you have already applied for funding this year then there is no need to apply again.

Workshops fill up fast at the SCMA Conference so be sure to book early to reserve your places.  All Conference 2017 workshops will come with Certificates of Attendance and this year the event will be Open Badged.
