Childminder and parents to help shape the future work programme of Education and Skills Committee
A local childminder and parents will be chatting about their personal experiences this evening, representing the views of our early years sector at an informal meeting of the Education and Skills Committee. The aim of the informal planning meeting is to think about its future work programme.

MSPs will be gathering in Stirling to gain an insight from those who work in the sector, about early years, primary age children and secondary school aged young people. They are particularly interested in gaining perspective/personal experiences, with the idea that the discussions can cover anything relating to teaching and in-school support, parents’ perspective, young people's perspective and support available outside of school including initiatives in the community.

“I’m so pleased that childminders and parents will be represented at this meeting,” said Maggie Simpson, chief executive of SCMA. “I know that the MSPs are keen to meet with people who want to share their positive experiences and any concerns about support for young people. Together we will help the committee shape its future work programme.”

The remit of the Scottish Parliament Education and Skills Committee covers the vast majority of issues that relate to young people. The Committee’s role is to hold the Government to account, hold inquiries, consider legislation and petitions. The meeting today, and other pieces of work the committee is undertaking, are intended to provide context for future evidence taking sessions on different aspects of the Committee’s remit, including sessions on primary and secondary education on 14 September 2016.
