Inverclyde childminders help families get a fair deal

Hundreds of Inverclyde families enjoyed a free trip to the cinema, thanks to the incredible efforts of Inverclyde’s Childminding Network.

‘Parentzone’ is a local initiative that aims to help reduce the cost of a day out. It was set up last year by Inverclyde childminders to help families get a fair deal locally.

SCMA childminder and Parentzone founder Susannah Knox said: “We set up Parentzone because of the demand from our families looking for advice.  We got talking about the cost of days out and we wanted to do something about it.

“Our aim is to help families who are all financially squeezed. The cinema in particular is an expensive day out and so we went to talk to the Waterfront — they were absolutely brilliant."

To celebrate such a groundbreaking collaboration, the Waterfront Cinema in Greenock gave away 600 free tickets, and the families enjoyed Shaun the Sheep and Spongebob.

“Together we set up the film club; offering cut price tickets for ‘film club days’ at the weekends and in the holidays, and it’s been very popular.”

The film club on a Saturday is just one of their special offers: “We want to support local businesses and the local economy,” Susannah added: “Childminders are local businesses too.
