Scotland’s Biggest Early Years Conference comes to Edinburgh

‘My Rights, My Voice: Celebrating the Rights of the Child’ takes place in the John McIntyre Centre from 22- 25 July.

Edinburgh’s John McIntyre Centre is gearing up to host Scotland’s biggest international early years event next week. The International Family Day Care Organisation (IFDCO) conference will welcome world-renowned early years and children’s rights experts over a four day period to share expertise with delegates from across the globe.

Speakers such as Professor Pat Dolan, Baroness Susan Greenfield, Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, Professor Tina Bruce and Gerison Lansdown feature in the conference programme.

The International Family Day Care Organisation holds a conference every three years to encourage the coming together of childcare experts worldwide. The last conference was held in Brisbane, Australia in 2012. Scotland last played host to the conference in 1999 when delegates were welcomed to Strathclyde University.

The event is jointly hosted by Children in Scotland and Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA). SCMA’s Chief Executive, Maggie Simpson, says;

“I’m looking forward to this event greatly as it promises to be not only an interesting exchange of expertise and ideas but an opportunity to showcase Scotland’s early years sector to the rest of the world.”

As well as seminars and workshops international delegates will also have the opportunity to visit the Scottish Parliament and attend a traditional Scottish ceilidh.
