The Connected Baby Series, helping you to understand your wee ones

Would you like to gain insight into the knowledge and science that is changing our society’s perceptions of what makes humans tick?  Then the Connected Baby Series, a set of three e-Learning courses developed by Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, may be just the help you’ve been looking for.

SCMA has partnered with Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, a developmental psychologist who specialises in the early years and their impact on the rest of our lives, to make available her series of e-Learning courses.  These three electronic courses explore attachment, brain development and connection, and are exceptionally priced at £60.00 for all three.  This special partnership offer has been made available only for members of the SCMA.

“The latest scientific research shows that providing children with experiences of emotional safety is the only way to help them grow strong ‘internal teddy bears’ – or, to use more formal language, strong ‘self-regulatory systems’,” said Suzanne. “Formal scientific language feels scary for many people, and I try to tackle that concern in my work.  I’ve designed these courses to ensure that they leave learners feeling confident about their understanding and able to apply their knowledge to everyday situations.”

Suzanne added, “I’m so pleased about this partnership.  Childcare staff are crucial in the development of children’s internal teddy bears.  This partnership with SCMA is going to give more childminders access to cutting-edge knowledge.  It’s also a way of emphasising more widely just how important childminders are for our whole society.”

The three Connected Baby e-courses are as follows:-

  1. Motorways in the Brain: The processes of neural development
This course explores how brains develop, making clear how they function as well as how emotional needs and behaviour intersect.

  2. Sabre Tooth Tigers and Teddy Bears: Understanding attachment
This course explains how scientific thinking about attachment has changed since it first emerged in the 1940s and introduces a new approach to understanding this theory, through the language of ‘internal teddy bears’.

  3. Connection in Action: Seeing relationships in everyday settings
This course ties together the two previous courses, by showing connection happening in real life situations, through the use of video footage filmed in early years settings.  The footage has been narrated to enhance the insights it offers.

Each course provides a certificate on completion and is designed to:

  • Let you work at your own pace
  • Fit your lifestyle, as you are able to save and continue at your own convenience.
  • Last approximately three hours, from start to finish.

The e-courses are available from 16 January 2017.  Once courses have completed, candidates will be eligible to join a small group ‘meet me’ call with Suzanne.  More information on this event will be made available when booking courses.  To book or find out more about the Connected Baby e-courses, please telephone our Learn with SCMA team on 01786 445377 or email trainingbookings@childminding.org
