In 2012 Who Cares? Scotland, as part of a coalition of children’s charities, enabled care experienced young people to come together and influence the early stages and consultation on the Children and Young People (Scotland) Act 2014. These courageous young people managed to achieve three important provisions which have the potential of improving care experience across Scotland:
1.
Increased care leaving age for young people up to the age of 21
2.
Increased after care support up to the age of 26
3.
A clearer definition of corporate parenting and 24 named corporate parents
Now, in the lead up to the implementation of the Act this year, Who Cares? Scotland want to make sure young people are being listened to about how professionals should interpret this Act in practice.
At the end of last year they consulted with 87 care experienced young people and asked them for their views. Read the research
