About us

The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) is the only organisation dedicated to supporting childminders in Scotland.

We promote childminding as a quality childcare service and support childminders to be the very best they can be. SCMA helps shape policy, share knowledge and guidance, provide professional training and events for our members and the wider childminding community.

Childminding has one of the highest quality ratings in Scotland, with 92% of childminders achieving ‘good’ or above across all quality ratings at inspection. Evidence has shown childminding can enhance a child’s early learning, confidence and their social development.

Membership of SCMA

Our childminder members enjoy a wide range of exclusive benefits; but membership of SCMA also helps to demonstrate that childminders are professional, informed, committed to quality improvement and to providing the very best service for children and families.

"Childminders will be central to our ambitions for a massive expansion
of funded Early Learning and Childcare."
Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister of Scotland
