Childminders will receive new Health and Social Care Standards

Childminders will receive new Health and Social Care Standards
The Scottish Government is sending out copies of the new Health and Social Care Standards to all childminders in Scotland.

The new Health and Social Care Standards - which will be rolled out from April 2018 - will be landing on your doorstep very soon. SCMA members will already be aware of the new standards and read about them in recent issues of our quarterly Childminding magazine.

Published in June this year, the Scottish Government developed these new standards through extensive public consultation and through partnership with an implementation team, including Maggie Simpson, the Chief Executive of SCMA.

For childminders, there will be no “big bang approach” as you’re already ahead of the game. Childminding services in Scotland have been receiving outcome-based inspections from the Care Inspectorate for the past few years now, and these will continue as normal.

Maggie said: “For our members, while it is likely that there will be some changes to the evidence you keep, no major changes are expected regarding inspections.”

Underpinned by human rights and wellbeing principles, the new Standards will be “at the heart of everything we do” according to the Care Inspectorate and will “put the spotlight on what really matters - the experience of the person using the care service”.

However, it is important for childminders to recognise and be familiar with the new Health and Social Care Standards, as they will now form the heart of every care service in Scotland.
