The Scottish Government will enact new legislation on the 1 April 2024: the Health and Care (Staffing)(Scotland) Act 2019 which aims to enable safe and high-quality care and improved outcomes for children through appropriate staffing.
We highlighted this new legislation to members in the last month’s issue of Childminding News, and we are keen to emphasise that the Act applies to
all childminders - and not just those services that are larger settings or those who work with assistants. It will effect changes to current legislation that guides the requirements of all childminding services registered with the Care Inspectorate.
The Act has also been highlighted by the Care Inspectorate in recent Provider Update emails, and the Scottish Government has commissioned the Care Inspectorate’s Safe Staffing Programme to support care services to prepare for the introduction of the Act.
As part of this work, the Care Inspectorate is hosting a specific webinar event for childminders.
