First Aid Training for Childminders

SCMA members benefit from discounted access to high-quality
first aid training through our partnership with Mini First Aid*.

We’re delighted to be working alongside Mini First Aid to enable our childminder members to access comprehensive first aid training that meets your needs as a professional childminder in Scotland.

Who are Mini First Aid?
Mini First Aid is the UK’s largest paediatric first aid training provider, which started in 2014 from a kitchen table in Leeds. Founder Kate Ball wanted to offer interactive, fun and memorable first aid teaching so that people could remember the skills needed when called upon in a first aid emergency.

In 2021, BBC Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies saw huge potential in Mini First Aid and came on board as an investor and adviser. Now, Mini First Aid is a multi-award-winning business with over 70 franchises across the UK, training 1000’s of people every single week. Mini First Aid is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body to deliver First Aid Qualification courses for those who require them for work purposes.

What does Mini First Aid provide?
There are two courses available, both at a discounted rate for SCMA members*.

  • Emergency Paediatric First Aid (£65) is a six-hour course, completed during a one-day class of hands-on, practical learning. This is recommended for those working in a childminding setting and provides all the necessary first aid training required for childminders. This qualification is valid for three years from date of completion.

  • Paediatric First Aid Blended e-Learning (£95) is a 12-hour course in total, which offers more flexibility. It comprises of a six-hour e-Learning element, which can be completed in your own time, before a one-day (six-hour) practical class. This course is suitable for childminders wanting to gain a deeper knowledge of first aid techniques and skills.

Both courses are delivered with Mini First Aid’s unique, refreshing approach to first aid training – they want you to remember everything when you need it! The classes use as many opportunities as possible to be interactive and hands-on and utilise lots of different teaching styles to make sure you stay engaged with the content.

“A great paediatric first aid course…a fantastic teacher and a great refresher.
