Care Inspectorate CEO to assume top lead role at Education Scotland

The Scottish Government has asked the Chief Executive of the Care Inspectorate, Karen Reid, to assume the Chief Executive role at Education Scotland on an interim basis, and lead both organisations simultaneously.

The current Chief Executive of Education Scotland is Bill Maxwell who is due to retire this month. It has been announced that he will be succeeded by Karen Reid on a temporary basis, whilst her role continues with the Care Inspectorate.

Karen Reid, Chief Executive of the Care Inspectorate, said: “Education Scotland will play a key role in the regional improvement collaboratives, and take on responsibility for the leadership and professional development of the workforce. My role will be to prepare Education Scotland, over the coming months, to be able to play the central role envisaged for it.

“I want to assure my colleagues that my commitment for the Care Inspectorate to work collaboratively across the sectors remains unchanged. I will continue to lead the work of the Care Inspectorate, chair our Executive Team, and set the strategic priorities of the organisation.”

Maggie Simpson, Chief Executive of SCMA, said: “I look forward to working with Karen across both organisations in the months to come, and although this is only an interim measure, I feel we will all benefit from the positive effects as we look towards more partnership working across various organisations in the sector.”
