Each year the Care Inspectorate asks all service providers to complete their ‘Annual Return’ questionnaire. This year's annual returns will be available to providers for completion
between 10 January and 20 March.
Your annual return is essential and the information you supply will be used by the Care Inspectorate, Scottish Government, and others – providing a useful insight into the overall state of childminding in Scotland. It also informs the Care Inspectorate about your service and helps them plan and carry out inspections.
From Monday (10 January) you will be able to update, review and complete your annual return online via
eForms by 20 March. The timescales have been extended due to the on-going pressures that services are currently experiencing.
Remember - even if your service is inactive, you must submit an annual return.
If your service was registered on or after 1 October 2021, you should try to complete an annual return this year, although it’s not mandatory.

In addition, there are new and updated sections on your annual return questionnaire that will apply to childminding services. These cover the new Scottish Government Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme, and the use of digital technology in your setting:
- Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme: this is a new section to capture information from you on the Scottish Government’s Scottish Milk and Healthy Snack Scheme in practice.
- Digital Technology: this section was added last year and has been updated to take account of feedback received. It aims to capture information about how digitally connected your setting is and how you use technology within your care service.
