COVID-19 Testing: Update (5 February)

COVID-19 Testing: Update (5 February)
Earlier this week it was announced that routine testing will be introduced for school-based ELC and childcare staff to support the wider re-opening of childcare from 22 February. It was also confirmed that the wider rollout of this was being considered for PVI settings, without direct reference made to childminding. As a result, we have been receiving a number of enquiries from members.

We understand this latest development is linked to minimising the risks of adult-to-adult and wider community transmission of the virus where adults work together. SCMA has sought clarity from the Scottish Government regarding this. The matter of testing and where it can be most useful is undergoing on-going national discussion in which SCMA and other provider organisations are participating. We understand that further communications about this will be coming and we will update you about this as soon as possible.

In the meantime, SCMA and others continue to advocate the need for childminders, other childcare staff and teachers to be prioritised for receiving the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as is possible.
