Introducing our new Chief Executive Officer, Graeme McAlister

The Scottish Childminding Association (SCMA) has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).


Graeme McAlister will formally take up the position of CEO on 1 April 2019, following the retirement of the current CEO Maggie Simpson, who will stay in the role up until then to assist with the transition.

Commenting on the appointment Liz Stewart, Convener, SCMA said: “I am delighted to welcome Graeme to SCMA and to confirm his appointment as our new Chief Executive. 

“We received applications from a very high calibre of candidates in our search to recruit a remarkable individual to take the helm and lead SCMA forward. Following a detailed and rigorous recruitment process we know we have appointed an exceptional candidate who is passionate about the lives of children and who is keen to support our members play their part in providing a quality childcare experience within a family setting.

“The childcare sector is currently a challenging landscape politically and socially, but Graeme is bringing a wealth of experience to our organisation that will ultimately bring opportunities to develop and grow. With a proven track record of success, he is an experienced leader and I wish Graeme the very best in his new role.  

“I look forward to working closely with him in the New Year.”

Graeme McAlister added: "I am delighted to have been appointed to this role and to be joining the SCMA at this important time in the development of Early Learning and Childcare in Scotland. I am very much looking forward to working with staff and members in ensuring that the views and experiences of childminders are represented, and working collaboratively with others".
