SCMA Statement on Phase 3 Guidance for Nurseries and Larger Non-Childminding Settings

SCMA Statement on Phase 3 Guidance for Nurseries and Larger Non-Childminding Settings
On Monday 15 June, new guidance was issued by Scottish Government to support the re-opening of nurseries and larger non-childminding settings during Phase 3 of relaxing lock down in Scotland.  As yet, no date has been set for Scotland moving into Phase 3.

While this guidance is not specifically for childminders, we recognise there are aspects within it which impact on childminding, in particular, blended care and ELC provision.  The Scottish Government guidance states that blended care should only take place when absolutely necessary to support critical childcare, such as for key worker families. In such cases,  this would be a matter for the individual setting’s discretion, following a risk assessment and consultation with the families and other setting concerned. This position is based on the latest public health advice, and may be reviewed as advice continues to develop.

Understandably, many of you have been in contact with SCMA with questions and seeking information on how this may impact your childminding setting during Phase 3.

We are liaising with Scottish Government and the Care Inspectorate to seek further clarity.  Please be assured that we continue to represent your views at the very highest levels and intend to provide further detail, including a video update from Chief Executive, Graeme McAlister as soon as we can.

This is a continually evolving process and it is anticipated that further guidance will be provided as we move through the various ‘phases’ of lockdown.
