Play Scotland has launched its Manifesto for Play this week, advocating for children’s play opportunities and calling on all political parties to commit to supporting their ‘Ten Asks for Play’.
Building on what has been achieved over the last ten years for children’s right to play in Scotland, the Manifesto for Play is calling for children’s play needs to be assessed and prioritised in policy and practice as we recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
SCMA is delighted to support the Manifesto for Play, as we know and understand how vital play is for the wellbeing, learning and development of children. Childminders are true play champions, who are always supporting play opportunities and looking for fun and innovative ways to enrich the lives of their minded children.
During these challenging times, play is even more necessary than usual – especially when many children, young people and families are feeling isolated. Play is vital to children’s physical, social and emotional wellbeing, and help to sustain positive mental health and growth. Ensuring continuity in children’s play experiences must be central to the national and local response to COVID-19 and the recovery plan.
