This week was originally marked in our diaries to be Childminding Week 2020, and due to the current COVID-19 crisis, we’ve had to cancel our flagship Childminding Day event at Blair Drummond Safari Park and find alternative ways to #CheerforChildminding.
Childminding Week is all about raising the profile and improving recognition of childminding across Scotland – and it would be foolish for us to let this opportunity pass us by.
At this time - now, more than ever - this remains an important time to promote awareness of childminding in Scotland. With so many of your settings closed to protect the health of their own families, and some remaining open to support key worker families and vulnerable children. It is essential that we continue to #CheerforChildminding – even though we’ll be cheering remotely.
With this in mind, we want to continue to communicate and engage with our members, and hopefully provide you with some light relief, tips and ideas for passing the time in isolation with your families. And we hope many of you will get involved.
Get Involved
This is a challenging time for us all, but here at SCMA, we still want to celebrate the fantastic work you do for children across Scotland and your communities.
Even if your childminding service is currently closed, there are still ways to connect with families and your minded children and we’d love to hear about how you are making this time as positive as possible.
Join the Childminding Week conversation and #CheerforChildminding by getting involved. Become a ‘Childminding Week 2020 Champion’ and share your photos, stories and adventures with us between 4-10 May and we'll share them across Scotland.
Now is the ideal time to help shine a light on the positive impact that childminders make every day, so please feel free to share your childminding images via Facebook or Tweet us @ScotChildmind and help us #CheerforChildminding.

We hope to ensure that next year Childminding Week 2021 will be bigger and better than ever!
A little something extra…
Alongside this alternative Childminding Week, we have put a huge amount of energy into providing regular updates on COVID-19 and in supporting you at this time. In addition, we are developing quick online bulletins that will form a series over the next few weeks.
Hopefully, you are able to take some time out to read and enjoy these interactive publications and think about how you can incorporate some of the ideas within your own childminding setting and with your own family at home; helping you to benefit you and your childminding practice for the future.
Look out for the first issue of our online bulletins coming soon. Keep an eye on your inbox, and don’t forget to regularly check you junk folder for update from SCMA.
Whether you have temporarily closed your childminding business, or you remain open to provide places for key worker families and vulnerable children, we want to thank each and every one of you for your hard work, dedication and on-going support of childminding.
Childminders must ensure that they have permission to take and share photos of their minded children before submitting them to SCMA. Read our Privacy Policy.
