This course is only available from October to March. It is an Interactive Learning session, which involves being outdoors.
If you would like to find out more, or add your name to the interest list for this course, please email trainingbookings@childminding.org

The aim of this course is to promote STEM-based science inquiry skills and STEM outdoor learning opportunities in your childminding setting.

This hybrid course involves pre-course information being accessed by the learner and an outdoor session involving childminders and their minded children.

The objectives of this course are:

  • To provide quality play opportunities where children can learn more about science and nature.
  • To recognise and encourage the use of STEM activities within your outdoor learning.
  • To understand the importance of extending learning through open questions.
  • To become a confident STEM facilitator in your childminding setting and use Science Inquiry skills.
  • To recognise where STEM supports the Curriculum for Excellence.

This course was co-developed by SCMA and the Scottish Schools Education Research Centre (SSERC) and funded by Education Scotland from STEM grant funding.

Why should I attend?

This course provides you with an overview of STEM and how it can be incorporated into outdoor play and learning within your service, with references to the Curriculum for Excellence so you can easily demonstrate how you are meeting outcomes for children and provides valuable evidence for your inspection.

Who is it for?

Childminders who want to engage with STEM and enhance the learning and play experiences for minded children.

STEM is a hot topic, and to help stimulate children's learning, we must encourage them to take interest in STEM-related themes.
