SCMA members who buy or renew their Public Liability Insurance (PLI) on or after 1 April 2016 will have their cover automatically increased from £5,000,000 to £10,000,000 - completely free of charge.
Beware! Not all Public Liability Insurance (PLI) is the same.
Be careful to check that the insurance you are being offered provides all the cover you need.
If a policy is much cheaper than another (or provided ‘free’ with another service) then it is likely to provide a lower level of cover and fewer features so check the details carefully before you make a commitment. Also, some local authorities require you to have a minimum level of cover.
Q: Do I need £10,000,000 cover?
A: Some companies offer policies with varying indemnity limits, from as little as £2,000,000. This is a large amount of money, but every year young children who have suffered very serious accidents in childcare settings are awarded multi-million pound sums to support them for the rest of their lives.
