Update: The consultation period for the new draft Shared Inspection Framework has been extended, and you now have until 19 January 2024 to take part in the online survey.
The Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland have published a joint statement and the draft version of the new Shared Inspection Framework for early learning and childcare services, including childminding and school-aged childcare in Scotland.
We would encourage childminders to review the draft framework and share their feedback with the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland, as your responses will help shape the future inspection framework.

The survey will close on
Friday 19 January 2024 (extended deadline). Once the Care Inspectorate and Education Scotland have taken your views into account, they will publish the final Shared Inspection Framework once the consultation period has finished.
The new Shared Inspection Framework will be implemented in all settings from September 2024. The Care Inspectorate will provide updated timescales for the remainder of the delivery of the framework, including the testing and launch date, in the New Year. During this test period, any feedback will be listened to and will be incorporated into any final changes.
SCMA has represented childminding during initial meetings of the Stakeholder Reference Group, contributing views and providing a national voice for childminders, which have informed the development of the new Shared Inspection Framework.
However, despite our previous involvement, this is our first view of the draft framework. We will be submitting a formal response on behalf of the workforce, continuing to reflect the need for an accessible document, applicable to childminding settings, which supports quality improvement without adding to levels of paperwork and duplication.
SCMA is strongly encouraging as many childminders as possible to take part in the consultation and complete their survey. We know your time is precious, and some of the questions for childminders may take a few minutes to complete, but we feel it is very important for you to have your say.
As always, we will keep members updated, and share any updates as they become available.
