Scotland has a good education system – yet over 1 in 10 children are not reading well by the end of primary school – and more than 1 in 5 of the poorest children are struggling.
Save the Children and the
Read On. Get On. campaign don’t think this is good enough. Children need good reading skills to enjoy books and stories and to learn and achieve to their best potential.
This week, Save the Children want to show politicians that parents from across Scotland agree that every child should be helped to read well by the time they finish primary school.
HOW TO TAKE PART
We’re asking parents to add their name to a letter to Scotland’s party leaders and local politicians.
The letter will ask them to get all children reading well by 2025 – and will show that parents from every part of Scotland care about children’s reading.
To add your name, email e.nutbrown@savethechildren.org.uk by Wednesday 16 December with:
•
Your name [first name/or first and surname]
•
Your Postcode [to show which local politician to get in touch with]
