Natalie Don-Innes, the Minister for Children and Young People and The Promise launched the National Early Years Speech, Language and Communication Action Plan, on behalf of the Scottish Government this week.
The Action Plan sets out a bold national vision to ensure
every child in Scotland has the strongest possible foundation in speech, language and communication from the earliest stages of life.
It states: “
This vision reflects a clear commitment to a preventative approach, one that challenges the status quo by prioritising early, timely intervention.
“
Such an approach recognises that early support is crucial in mitigating difficulties before these become entrenched, with the potential to improve outcomes for children and their families.”
The Action Plan is also built around three pillars:
Leadership,
Families and Communities, and a
Skilled and Supported Workforce - ensuring a whole‑system approach to improving children’s early communication.
As childminders form a key part of the ‘skilled and supported workforce’ pillar and work closely with families and communities, we wanted to share this new Action Plan with you.
We would recommend that you take some time to review the plan and consider what actions you may wish to take across your own planning and delivery within your childminding practice.
