SCMA presents evidence at the Scottish Government to the Social Justice and Social Security Committee’s Inquiry into Child Poverty and Parental Employability
Our Chief Executive, Graeme McAlister, was at the Scottish Parliament again on Thursday 25 May to give evidence to the Social Justice and Social Security Committee’s Inquiry into Child Poverty and Parental Employability.

Representing childminding in Scotland, he spoke about how childminders can play an important role in helping to reduce child poverty and supporting parental employment.

However, Graeme raised the crucial point that support for childminders and growth of the workforce is essential to ensure there is capacity to deliver the commitments outlined in the Programme for the Government – and this will include tackling the issues that are adversely affecting retention in the childminding workforce.

Highlighting our current recruitment campaign, bringing new childminders into the profession, Graeme reported that for the Scottish Government to achieve their policy ambitions, and help parents obtain or return to employment, will require a strong and sustainable childminding workforce.
