The Experience of Neurodivergent Childminders Survey

The Experience of Neurodivergent Childminders Survey
The next phase of SCMA’s Neurodiversity and Inclusion in the Childminding Workforce project – a partnership with Three Sisters Consultancy – is now underway.

24% of the childminders who responded to our 'Diversity in the Childminding Workforce' survey in February said they were neurodivergent, which is higher than the national average. So, we are on a mission to find out more about the experiences of neurodivergent childminders, in their own words.

This new survey is the first of its kind – a ‘deep dive’ into the experiences of neurodivergent childminders. It will help us understand what neurodivergent childminders value about their role, their strengths as well as any challenges they face.

SCMA is very keen to understand more about these areas so that we can improve our support for neurodivergent members and, where required, encourage others (e.g. the Scottish Government, the Care Inspectorate or local authorities) to improve their support and increase accessibility for neurodivergent childminders.

This pioneering survey was sent to all SCMA member earlier today - so please check you email inbox - and this survey is completely anonymous, and will close at 12noon on Friday 3 July 2026.

Participants do not have to have a formal diagnosis to take part in the survey. Members can choose what questions to answer, and how much detail to add.

We are interested in what is important to you.
