What's it about?

Building the Ambition is national practice guidance to support staff in providing high quality Early Learning and Childcare. It provides support for putting theory into practice by offering case studies and reflective questions to provoke discussion and to help support improvement. 

The Care Inspectorate expect you, as a childminder, to be able to demonstrate at inspection how you are using the resource to develop your practice and enhance outcomes for children.

This course aims to give childminders the support needed to:

  • Understand and use the ‘Building the Ambition’ resource.
  • Develop and improve your service through self reflection and practice change.

Key learning during this course includes understanding and explaining:

  1. Building the Ambition, how this is relevant for childminders and how to use it as guidance to inform practice.
  2. The definition of Early Learning and Childcare within Building the Ambition.
  3. How to ensure children’s needs are met at points of transition.
  4. Play and learning.
  5. How to apply Building the Ambition into a childminding practice.
  6. Support documents to use to demonstrate the use of Building the Ambition in a childminding practice.

Course outcomes:

When you have completed this course, your core knowledge and understanding will include:

  3. United Nations Convention Rights of the Child.
  4. Curriculum for Excellence.
  5. Getting it Right for Every Child.

On Demand

Our Learn with SCMA team can arrange any SCMA course to come to you - wherever you are in Scotland. 

Provided you know at least six SCMA members interested in a particular course, we can provide the training.  We can arrange for any of our Continuing Professional Learning courses to be organised for groups of 6-20 SCMA members at a date, time and place to suit you and your group.
